The Joy of Learning: Back to School for Every Stage of Life

By Tammy Davis M.A.T | Creatively Influenced

Remember the thrill of cracking open a brand-new notebook? That fresh page feeling isn’t just for students; it’s for anyone ready to learn something new.

I still remember when I bought my first Cricut. I was so excited… and so intimidated. It sat in the box for weeks until I finally asked myself, “What’s the Cricut going to do to me?” That little moment of courage turned into a creative adventure, and that’s what back-to-school season is really about: saying yes to new beginnings, no matter your age.

Whether you’re headed back to a classroom, logging into Zoom, or finally opening that Cricut machine you’ve had tucked away, back-to-school season isn’t just for kids; it’s for anyone with a curious mind.

Learning doesn’t end at high school, it’s just the beginning of what I believe is a lifelong journey of curiosity, growth, and creativity.

For the Little Learners (and Their Grownups)

Let’s talk about our K–12 students. Whether they’re just starting kindergarten or heading into high school, routines and a positive mindset can help set the tone for a successful year. And parents, yes, you play a big part too (shoutout to all the lunch-packers, ride-givers, and homework helpers!).

Simple ways to start the year strong:

  • Set up a daily rhythm – Consistent sleep, breakfast, and after-school wind-downs are golden.
  • Create a “get ready” zone – Think cubby meets command center, backpacks, books, water bottles all in one spot.
  • Read together daily – Just 15–20 minutes a day builds confidence and comprehension.
  • Make space for creativity – Drawing, building, storytelling, it’s all brain food!

For the Grown Folks Ready to Grow

Now, for my fellow lifelong learners, it’s our time, too! Maybe you want to finally get comfortable with Canva, or you’re curious about something completely new. Back to school is the perfect excuse to say, Why not me?

Ideas to jumpstart your own learning season:

  • Pick a personal challenge – Read 3 new books, get a new certification, or launch that side project.
  • Learn a creative tool – Yes, adults can play on Canva, too!
  • Join or start a book club – One that mixes learning with laughter is even better.
  • Try something new this season – Let’s finally learn how to use that Cricut that’s still sitting in the box or get confident using Google tools you’ve been avoiding. Learning doesn’t have to be overwhelming; it can be fun, empowering, and totally at your own pace!

  • Head to Canva and search “Personal Dashboard” or “Weekly Planner.”
  • Plug in your goals, class schedule, reading list, or even your meal prep plan!
  • Add colors, photos, quotes, and icons that make you want to look at it.
  • Print it, post it on the fridge, or make it your desktop wallpaper.

Bonus idea: Create one as a family or with a group, check in weekly, and cheer each other on!
